{"id":7658,"date":"2018-12-07T17:37:46","date_gmt":"2018-12-08T01:37:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.befresh.ca\/?p=7658"},"modified":"2018-12-12T11:56:46","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T19:56:46","slug":"blog-food-for-thought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.befresh.ca\/wrdp\/blog-food-for-thought\/","title":{"rendered":"Food For Thought From Sport Psychology Coach Michelle Newton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever asked yourself, \u201cwhat is my relationship to food?\u201d\u00a0 We know certain truths about food, yet we sometimes feel powerless over our food choices.\u00a0 We know that sugar and processed foods do not support wellness.\u00a0 And we know that real foods such as vegetables, fruit and whole grains are good for us.\u00a0 Yet, despite our knowledge we continue to consume foods that we know are detrimental to our health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fresh.spud.com\/blog-intro-offer\/?bloglink=kidsnacks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50843 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/about.spud.com\/wrdp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/1803_Blog_CTA_Build-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the reasons for our poor food choices is our belief systems and how these relate to food. These belief systems were formed during adolescence, and quite simply they act like the operating system of a computer.\u00a0 They kick in during moments of stress, anxiety, anger, or frustration.\u00a0 In a sense, the individual goes on autopilot and their freedom of choice disappears.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, reflect on your earliest childhood memory of food.\u00a0 It may have been the warm smells of Thanksgiving or a family get together, or being told to finish what is on your plate.\u00a0 In that moment, you gave food a certain meaning and your belief system was formed. \u00a0For some, the meaning of food is \u201cfood is fuel\u201d, for others they relate to food as \u201ccomfort.\u201d\u00a0 Ask yourself, \u201cwhat meaning do I give food?\u201d\u00a0 If the meaning you give it allows you to make healthy choices than great, conversely if your meaning disempowers you, than by identifying this you are on your way towards healthier food choices.\u00a0 Know that in every moment we are in charge of how we relate to food.\u00a0 If your interpretation of food is not serving you, it is up to you to change it.\u00a0 Want that chocolate bar?
