In previous years, I reacted to this cold weather scaly-skin phenomenon by slathering on my ineffective water-based moisturizer numerous times a day, or sometimes just giving up and succumbing to the scaliness altogether. These tactics didn\u2019t do much. In the past few months though, I\u2019ve committed to improving my winter skin care routine and it definitely feels better! Here are my tried and tested tips to baby&#8217;s bottom skin in the winter.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Winter Skin Care Tips\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Moisturize properly.<\/span><\/strong><b><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone tells you to moisturize <em>more<\/em> during the winter, but the key thing here is to moisturize <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the proper time<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is right after a shower or washing your face since hot water removes moisture from your skin. Also, to retain more moisture, take lukewarm showers or &#8211; if you\u2019re like me and won\u2019t give up a piping hot shower &#8211; shower less often. Your skin will thank you.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-49672 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/about.spud.com\/wrdp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Untitled-design-24-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"119\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Consider facial oils.<\/span><\/strong><b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This past year I started using facial oil as a moisturizer. This is the best moisturizer I\u2019ve found &#8211; particularly because of my combination skin (if you don&#8217;t know what this means, it&#8217;s like it sounds: in some areas it\u2019s dry and in others it\u2019s oily). For the dry areas, facial oils help seal in moisture. For the oily areas, they <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/2013\/01\/should-you-swap-your-moisturizer-for-face-oil.html?mid=forbes_synd\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ctrick\u201d your skin into thinking it\u2019s already oily enough, which shuts of sebum production and reduces shine.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> While some commercial lotions are able to do this, oils seem to work naturally and usually have no extra fillers. Huge bonus. It\u2019s also reassuring that facial oils <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecut.com\/2013\/01\/should-you-swap-your-moisturizer-for-face-oil.html?mid=forbes_synd\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have been used for thousands of years<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Note: these oils might not work for everyone, and only certain oils might work (I personally like argan oil. I\u2019ve tried coconut in the past and it didn\u2019t work on my face, but maybe that&#8217;s just me). Either way, do some research, listen to yo&#8217; body, and maybe check with your medical professional if you\u2019re concerned. Do whatever winter skin care routine works for you.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Drink lots of water.<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This one has mixed reviews. Some studies say that drinking more water doesn\u2019t actually moisturize skin if you\u2019re already hydrated enough, but if you\u2019re <em>severely<\/em> dehydrated then yes, it will (although most of us aren\u2019t severely dehydrated). Either way, I have been <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">drinking lemon-infused water<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the past few months and I\u2019ve noticed positive changes in my skin. I\u2019m unsure whether this is because of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lemon<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in my water or the fact that I\u2019m drinking more water altogether or because I\u2019m consciously moisturizing more, but nevertheless it feels more soft and supple than usual. Whether it\u2019s all placebo or not, bottom line is: drinking water doesn\u2019t hurt, and neither do lemons.<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-49673 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/about.spud.com\/wrdp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Untitled-design-25-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"119\" height=\"182\" \/><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Your whole body needs love too.<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Don\u2019t restrict your moisturizing efforts to just your face. If your hands, feet and legs tend to get dry, be sure to moisturize them often and properly (see above). For hand creams, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spud.ca\/catalogue\/productDetails.cfm?part=PC1020\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gardener\u2019s Dream is my all-time favourite<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: it smells like heaven, works like a charm, and lasts forever. For body lotion, I tend to use <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coconut oil<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but you do you. Also, pro-tip: if your feet get dry during winter, moisturize with your favourite cream before bed, put on some socks, and sleep with socks on. This keeps allll the good moisture in.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Try a DIY face mask.<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> While I don\u2019t use face masks all the time, every once in a while they\u2019re a nice treat. For me, I like making my face masks so I know what\u2019s in them (plus it\u2019s a fun DIY craft &#8211; you can never have too many crafts in your life). In the winter, I always choose moisturizing masks, like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/about.spud.com\/blog-diy-face-masks\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oatmeal and honey, since they\u2019re known for their hydrating qualities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Simply take a tsp of honey (add oats if you like), spread it evenly on your face, and wait 10-15 minutes. Wash off and enjoy your uber-soft skin!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-49674 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/about.spud.com\/wrdp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Untitled-design-26-196x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"119\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are the tips I\u2019ve tested out, but there are tons more. Give these bad boys a go and hopefully they work for you too! And if you have any special winter skin care tips that I haven&#8217;t mentioned, please share.
